Genesis: Chapter Eleven

Now everyone on earth had one language, one speech
Making it easy to preach and teach a breach
The people moved east and found a plain
Shinar its name and the people thought they would gain

They all got together and said lets make us some bricks
We’ll bake them until they are fully sick
They used brick instead of stone and for mortar tar
And they said let’s build a city with a tower that stretches far
A tower that reaches to the heavens above
We don’t want to punch with kid gloves
For ourselves we want to make us a name
We deserve all the glory, the honour and the fame
If we don’t do something right now
Then throughout all the lands we’ll be scattered and like how

The Lord came down to see the building of the city
For them he wasn’t feeling any pity
He was concerned at the unified committee
If with one language and one speech
They have already extended their reach
This I am sure is only just the start
Soon nothing will be impossible if they all do their part
So now I will go and pay them a little visit
And there I will make an assumpsit
We will confuse all their language and speech
So amongst themselves they will have a constructive breach
They will not understand each other
They will no longer act like unified brothers

So the Lord God scattered them all over the place
They stopped building the city which was a coup de grace
So that is why they called the place Babel
For the languages of the world were confused as God did enable
He spread them far and wide all over the globe
As they each looked for somewhere to call their abode

So just when you thought you’d heard the last of Shem
We look again and his descendants, and discuss them

Two years after the events of the flood did unfold
Shem was exactly100 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Arphaxad was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 500 years did Shem live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 600 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Arphaxad was 35 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Shelah was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 403 years did Arphaxad live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 438 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

 Shelah was 30 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Eber was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 403 years did Shelah live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 433 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Eber was 34 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Peleg was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 430 years did Eber live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 464 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Peleg was 30 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Reu was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 209 years did Peleg live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 239 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Reu was 32 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Serug was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 207 years did Reu live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 239 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Serug was 30 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Nahor was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 200 years did Serug live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 230 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

Nahor was 29 years old
This story can be told
When in his image he had a son
His family growing one by one
Terah was the name given to him
So we write this narrative with some vim
For another 119 years did Nahor live
Many sons and daughters to birth he did give
Then after a grand total of 148 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall

After a period of seventy years
Terah had three sons and gave three cheers
Abram, Nahor and Haran he did name these three
That was his official decree

So now let’s take a little bit of time
To now look at Terah’s family line

Of Abrah, Nahor and Haran was Terah their dad
Haran had a son named Lot, to the family line he did add
Before Terah caused the flag to be flown at half mast
In Ur of the Chaldeans Haran did in fact breathe his last
This was not a strange place; to him it was of great worth
For this was indeed the place of his birth
Abram and Nahor both found wives
In order to really enrich their lives
Sarai was the name of Abram’s wife
Milkah was Nahor’s wife to whom he shared his life
Milkah was the sibling of Iskah, the daughter of Haran
Sarai was childless, unable to conceive she was barren

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, the son of Haran and Sarai his daughter-in-law
And together they all walked out the door
They left Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan land
But when they reached Haran they actually did stand
They remained there
For them this place was quite fair

Then after a grand total of 205 years in all
Like the way of all men to death Terah did fall
In Haran was where he died
All of this is bona fide

Genesis: Chapter Ten

So now we will look at some family history
Of the sons of Noah, listen up for this is no mystery

Let’s start with Japheth and the sons he had
Seven names we can to this line add
Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan,
But wait there is even more in their clan
We add Tubal, Meshek, and Tiras and together they all be
Their names all added to the family tree

The sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah, three
Their names all added to the family tree

The sons of Javan; Elishah, Tarshish, that’s half of them
There are two more to add to their anthem
The Kittites and the Rodanites they be
Their names all added to the family tree
(From  these the maritime peoples did go out into their land
By their own individual clans
Each had their own nation, each their own tongue
They all ended up in places far flung.)

The sons of Ham; Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan they be
Their names all added to the family tree

The sons of Cush; Seba, Havilah, Sabtah
That’s three so far
Two more make five, Raamah and Sabteka they be
Their names all added to the family tree

The sons of Raamah; Sheba and Dedan they be
Their names both added to the family tree

So this dude Cush had himself a son
His name was Nimrod, and he was the one
A mighty warrior before the Lord, this ain't no bluff
No my friend, he was heaps tough
People talked about him -  hear the word
That’s the guy who’s a mighty hunter before the Lord
He had a great kingdom,
A stretching dominion
In it were Babylon, Uruk, Akked and Kalnar in Shinar
Places that were here, there, near and far
From there he went down to Assyria, to build some more
Ain't no stopping him, crashing through any door
He built Ninevah, Rehoboth Ir, Calah and Resen
It’s between Ninevah and Caleh, no messing
It’s called the great city
That’s not just a ditty

Egypt was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites
That’s just the beginning of their might
There was then the Naphtuhites, Pathrusites and Kasluhites
(If you don’t know them, from there did the Philistines ignite) and last of all was Caphitorites and that is who they all be
And wow all those people we can add to the family tree

Canaan was the father of Sidon his first born son
Definitely not the only one
He was followed by the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites
This is the start of the list we write
Then there were the Girgashites, Hivites, and Arkites
Now we are over half way through their might
Then there were the Sinites, Arvadites, and Zemarites
And finally the Hamathites, so that’s who they all be
We add them to our family tree

Later on the Canaanites all scattered
But they were not shattered
The borders of Canaan had extended
Which was what they fully intended
They reached from Sidon to Gerah as far as Gaza
And then Sodom, Gommorah, Admah and Zeboyim, to Lasha

Sons were also born to Shem
There were in fact five of them
Japheth was his older brother
Shem’s descendants were born one after another
Eber were his descendants name
They had a measure of their own fame

So the sons of Shem; Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad
And to them we can add
Lud and Aram, and that is who they all be
They became part of the family tree

The sons of Aram; Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek is who they be
They all are added to the family tree

Arphaxad was the father of Shelah
And Shelah the father of Eber
That is who they be
We add them as well to the family tree

To Eber two sons were born
One named Peleg, for when he was born the earth was torn
His brother was Joktan
Seemingly just an ordinary man

Joktan was the father of many sons
Thirteen in all, we’ll see them one by one
lmodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram
The first five of his clan
Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir
The next six that is who they were
Havilah and Jobab, make ten plus three
And that’s who they all be
We add them all to the family tree
To Joktan were all these sons born, all thirteen
The prognosis of him being ordinary was a bit keen

They lived in a region which stretched from Mesha to Sephar
This was the country in the hills in the east, not really that far

These are the sons of Shem arranged by their clans
By their territories, their nations, all their lands

These are Noah’s sons descendants, all of his relations
All lined up according to their nations
This is who all these people do really be
And we have drawn one giant family tree
Following the flood, and with everything they were worth
These nations spread right across the earth

Genesis: Chapter Nine

Noah and his sons did God richly bless
One thing he really wanted to impress
Go out, don’t slumber and don’t you cry
Be fruitful, increase yes, multiply
From now all the animals and all the beasts
They will fear you as a threat, as you see them as meat
They will not be looking at you and thinking the best
No, rather, around you they will never rest
The birds in the sky, the fish in the sea
All the creeping animals that you can see
All of these into your hands will be
Everything and anything for you will be food
Just like the plants, they be just as good
You now have it all
From the great to the small

But you must not be eating any meat
Where the blood of life gives a beat
For your own blood I will demand a reckoning
This is a demand not a beckoning
This accounting is for every animal
For anything abnormal to abysmal
And this a demand to all humans as well
I demand an account for every human life you fell

Whoever takes human blood
Will be dragged through metaphorical mud
If there is someone else’s life you have acquired
Your life in response will be required
For God created man in his own image
There is in him completely no damage

I tell you again where I want you to commit
Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, increase upon it

Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons
I’m telling you now you are the ones
I establish with you a covenant
I want you to be supplicant, not live in puzzlement
So pass it on to your descendants
All of those who are your dependants
And not just them, but to all the animals on the ark
From those who roar and hiss to those that bark
So I tell you my covenant now
I know you are wondering what is the how
Never again will all life be destroyed by a flood
Never again will the earth be submerged in water and mud

And so to mark our covenant I leave you a sign
For you, for all creatures with you, for people of all time
The sign of the covenant between the earth and me
Well this is what it will be
In the clouds, a rainbow a multi-coloured arc
Reminding you of the flood, and the ark
Whenever this rainbow in the sky does appear
You can live in comfort and not fear
For you know that when I see it I will remember
The covenant we have together, this is my endeavour

So God summarised all this to his main man Noah
This is, in our composition., the ultimate coda

So the three children of Noah, we tell you again
Were Shem, Ham and Japheth all of them men
(The father of Canaan was the one named Ham
This is just a little fact, not a piece of spam.)
To them many descendants were given birth
They were the people who were scattered all over the earth

So Noah who by natural trade was a man of the soil
Did not allow time to be his foil
Straight way he planted himself a vineyard
Got himself some wine and drank without regard
He got himself totally wiped out drunk
As drunk as that proverbial skunk
And so was lying in his abode
Sans all clothes, not even a robe
Ham, Canaan’s old man, had a good look and to his bro’s he did pander
Hey dad’s all stark naked go and take a gander!
Shem and Japheth were not so delirious
They were far more serious
To their father Noah they were in fact salubrious
They grabbed a piece of cloth
And avoided their father’s wrath
They walked in backwards and covered him
Their faces turned away, not acting on any whim
They did not see their father naked
To him this was against everything sacred

When Noah awoke from his drunken slumber
He found out what Ham had done and was filled with thunder
Cursed be Canaan his voice did roar
He is the one I hereby deplore
Amongst his brothers he will be the lowest slave
In him there is nothing that is brave

And then he had more things to say
Nothing was going to stop him on this day

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem
For his descendants, may Canaan be a slave to them
And as for Japheth, may God increase his land
Guiding him by his mighty hand
May Japheth live in the tents of Shem
And may Canaan be the slave of them

After the time of the flood had passed
Noah lived on and 350 more years were amassed
Then after a grand total of 950 years in all
Like the way of all men to death he did fall
